I have been hitting golf balls left handed for fun for about 5-10 years. I started playing for school and they told me that since i haven't played long to learn right handed but my moms boyfriend who taught me says that i need to stay left handed so what should i do?
Do which ever feels more comfortable.
well its hard to break that , you can though and generally if you can do it you will be a much better golfer i believe tiger woods is a left handed person who plays right handed..or it could be the reverse…cant remember you tend to have greater control over the club if you can switch hands this i do know, we tried to do this with my son and it didnt work, he is a true left handed person on the golf course

Leftys work different that rightees. Even your sightlines work a bit different. You should not force yourself to do what you do naturally in an opposite way. Maybe play right handed once in a while just to see what you can learn from it and maybe find a particular shot that works well when you use your right, but as a game plan stay who you are and listen to you body. You're a lefty - excel with what you've got instead of changing for no real purpose.

i am a lefty and actually started out with righty clubs. when i got a set of lefty clubs, everything seemed so much easier. i say you should stick to playing left because thats your dominant side. i read some other answers before i responded and they are right, lefties do work differently and see things differently. this is true but when playing golf, you must be comfortable. playing lefty should be more comfortable than playing righty because your left side is naturally dominant. switching wont help that much so i say stick with your left swing and just keep working hard. switching will take time you will feel a dramatic change for not that much better of a result, if not worse.

lefty golfer!
Stick to what feels comfortable.
Whatever you do to get that ball in the hole w/ the minimum number of strokes is what matters.
If you hit better left, hit left, vice versa.

Your school coach may be confused at looking at any problems of a lefty.
Take a little gift for him - a Mirror.
He can look at your swing in the mirror and see right handed to help fix any problem while not breaking your rhythm

try it right just to see how you play you may play better right. being left or right handed doesn't dictate which hand to play. i have a friend thats rh plays left. my daughter is lh plays right. really play which hand feels best. i can play left almost as well as right. tell them they can't dictate which hand you play.

That's insane if your practiced left handed for that long why change.
Unless for some reason you reallt a natural right handed.

Defiantely go with what's comfortable and natural to you. The philosophy of teaching golf has changed and despite a few 'fundamentals' there is no right way or wrong way. This is evident with some the pro players that have succeeded in the game, namely, Jim Furyk. Bottomline: Practice makes perfect!
However, many natural left-handers (left-hand is stronger) play very good golf right-handed. The reason is that the 'opposite' strong hand is key for balanced strength- that is to say they don't have to fight certain tendencies that come with playing on the same side as your 'strong' hand.
I hope that makes sense to you.

well, from what I get from your question about you playing for your school who want you to play right handed instead of left. 1) because the coach might have problem to teach a lefty. which I have found out some PGA golf instructors often have problem with lefty handed students.
I have ask other PGA golf instructors about lefty switch to right, they all agree the left handed would have some advance. But if you're nature lefty, I would suggest to you stay and just improve you golf skills.

i don't see why you should have to change to right handed golf if you have been playing lefty all those years. you might try it for a month or so but if you are not hitting the ball with the same distance or accurcy i would change back to lefty. then again. it might screw you up bad trying to change everything.

It's mostly crap. play the way you know how. don't let anybody try to change you.

I've been playing off and on for the last 15 years. When I first learned left handed clubs weren't that readily available and tended to be more expensive so I settled for using right handed clubs. It wasn't until a neighbor gave me a set of lefties that I became more comfortable with my swing. I know when I did get instruction from friend they always gave me the same answer… It would be sooo much easier if you played right handed. Well the truth who would it be easier for? Stay lefty if you're comfortable. But it doesn't hurt to try the right side there may be a time when that may be your only option for a shot. I think the coach is looking at the aspect of teaching and training as it's easier to teach a group of righties vs one lefty in the bunch,
